Event Reflections: Unpacking Community Safety at Beyond Policing

Wow, what a night we had at the Edmonds Waterfront Center! Last night, our community came together for the "Beyond Policing: Overlap Connections and Gaps" event, hosted by the Edmonds Civic Roundtable.

It was an eye-opening evening that went beyond the usual talk, diving deep into what community safety really means in today’s world.

Big thanks to our amazing panelists who led the charge in our discussions: Chief Michelle Bennett from the Edmonds Police, Lisa Edwards from Verdant Health, Sandra Mears from the Jean Kim Foundation, and Kellie Lewis at the Edmonds Food Bank. Each brought unique insights into tackling the tough issues like homelessness, mental health, and addiction, showing us how these challenges tie back to public safety.

The audience was engaged as our panelists shared their stories and strategies, sparking questions and conversations among attendees. It’s clear that everyone walked away with a lot to think about and ideas on how to actively participate in shaping a safer community.

We couldn’t have done this without you—the community members who showed up, listened, and engaged passionately. Your involvement is what turns these conversations into action.

Stay tuned for more events like this as we continue to explore important topics. We’re all in this together, and your continued support and participation are what make our community discussions so impactful.

Again, a huge thanks to everyone who came out last night, especially our panelists. Can’t wait to see you all again at our next gathering to keep this vital conversation going!
